Purpose…
Our passion, imagination, grit, and joy
will make our dreams our reality.
- Merle Schell
Purpose gives life meaning. As an educator, my purpose and vision is to build an intentional culture of learning - dynamic and flexible - resulting in student engagement, sustained personal growth, well-being, and academic success. It is a culturally holistic approach with core values that are rooted in trusting relationships and collaboration between teachers and students, school and parents. In this educational paradigm, students will be encouraged to use their voices and actions to help shape learning experiences that are relevant and perspectives that are both local and global. In exchange for earned responsibilities, students will be accountable for aiming high and preparing themselves to take their place as citizens of the world. It is our job as parents and educators to clear the way for them to do so.
Among the core values noted above, relationships are key. Through relationships we learn to see who we are, to know what we believe and why, to explore our interests, to listen, enjoy, and respect the views of others, to be vulnerable and honest, and to find common ground. We learn what it means to be empowered, to contribute, to change and grow, and to appreciate and welcome our responsibilities as well as our freedoms. In the end, when we find our purpose, we learn and understand what it means to be in the world.
The ABCs of this learning organization are: Acceptance, Belonging, and Community.
